Lake Mohawk Home Destroyed by fire
On February 11th, The Sparta Fire Department was dispatched to the Lake Mohawk section of the Township for a reported Large House on fire overlooking the Lake on the West Shore of the lake around 4:45a.m . Numerous residents reported the glow of a house on fire all the way across the lake from their homes . As the Fire Apparatus were responding , The Sparta Police department was conforming the correct address since some of the homes on the hillside overlooking the Lake are on narrow private driveways .Upon arrival of the Fire Department flames had Fully engulfed the Lakeside home. Dozens of Firefighters from Andover Twp., Newton & Ogdensburg, responded to the scene to assist Sparta. Fire Fighters were hampered by not only the bitterly cold temperatures but having to navigate narrowed roads due to all the snow cover from the recent snow fall .And hand stretch lines down a steep hill with over 2 feet of snow & ice and very limited access to the fire since the driveway was at the top of home . Firefighters remained on scene for hours hitting hotspots and bringing the Fire under control .There were no reported injuries at the scene. The fire is under investigation by the Sparta Police Dept. , The Sussex County Fire Marshall and the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office
